Tour de Moron

  Switzerland

1. Trail riding through the Franches-Montagnes
   (point-to-point trail ride)

Sample itinerary*:

Day 1, Saturday:
Around noon arrival at the farm at the foot of the Franches-Montagnes (transfer from airport Basel-Mulhouse or Bassecourt railway station is possible), getting familiar with the farm, the horses and the other riders.
After the welcome-lunch we saddle up for the first time and go on a 3-hour-discovery-ride into the surrounding area.
After coming back we are expected for dinner in the cosy farmhouse. Afterwards accomodation in the two holiday flats of the farm (at most 5 persons per appartment).

Day 2, Sunday:
After breakfast we prepare us and our horses for our 6-days-ride. Then we take off into the direction “Tour de Moron”. This tower was planned by Mario Botta and the plans were realized by brick layer and roadwork apprentices from all over Switzerland. When having good weather conditions you can see the Jura-region, the Vosges, the Black Forest and the alps! At the foot of the tower we are having our picnic today. After lunch we continue our ride over the ridge till we reach Bellelay or alternatively Lajoux. We are accommodated in a hotel or a guesthouse, in which we are also having our dinner. If the group is interested, there is the possibility to visit an ostrich farm in the evening.

Day 3, Monday:
Today we are heading towards the Réseau équestre des Franches-Montagnes (AREF) – a well developed network of bridle paths in the entire Franches-Montagnes. First we pass Breuleux before riding the famous “Galop du silence” and reaching Roselet. Roselet is one of three stables, that care for old horses, financed amongst other sources by a foundation.
Here we are having our lunchbreak and we visit the stables.
In the afternoon we continue our ride, till we reach Noirmont and our accomodation there.

Day 4, 5 and 6, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday:
During the next three days we discover a big part of the network of bridle paths in the Franches-Montagnes. This includes paths and grassland, is well marked and equipped with gates, that can easily be opened by riders and close automatically. Our rides are enriched with different visitations, e.g. the visit of a cheese dairy (amongst others production of the typical Tête de Moine), the Centre Nature in Cerlatez, a museum of vintage cars or the pond of La Gruère (one of the most beautiful nature reserves). On our way we also ride through herds of cattle and Franches-Montagnes-horses!

Day 7, Friday:
Today we start our way back towards the home stables. We pass lovely places like the lake of Lajoux or the gorge Des Beusses, till we reach the farm in the afternoon.
Then it’s time for your journey home.

For a getaway over the weekend we developed a 3-day-program for you:

Sample itinerary*:

Day 1:
Around noon arrival at the farm at the foot of the Franches-Montagnes (transfer from airport Basel-Mulhouse or Bassecourt railway station is possible), getting familiar with the farm, the horses and the other riders. After the welcome-lunch we saddle up, pack our saddle bags and start our ride into the Franches-Montagnes!
While climbing up we pass an absolute highlight of this region: the gorge Gorges du Pichoux. Furthermore we pass the smallest village of Switzerland: Monible (33 inhabitants). We continue our ride along Fornet until we reach Lajoux, where we are expected for a visit of the ostrich farm. Afterwards we head towards the hotel / guesthouse and are looking forward to our warm dinner.

Day 2:
After breakfast and the preparation for the day we ride towards the bridle path network of the AREF. This is a well developed network of bridle paths in the whole Franches-Montagnes and is equipped with special gates for riders.
We ride on grassland, where herds of cattle and horses are grazing and certainly we ride the “Galop du silence”… you will enjoy the long canter!
Around noon we reach Roselet. Roselet is one of three stables, that care for old horses, financed amongst other sources by a foundation. Here we are having our lunchbreak and we visit the stables.
Afterwards we continue the ride towards Saignelégier or Muriaux – depending on our timetable – and we have the possibility to visit the museum of vintage cars.

After the lunchbreak we cross big green grassland and ride back towards the home stables passing Péche, Sous la Côte and the surroundings of Lajoux. We also don’t miss two fascinating gorges – des Beusses and les Creuses – before arriving at the farm around 5 o`clock pm. Then it is time for your journey home.
